Brave Boy
I was busy finishing the dishes and putting laundry away when my cell phone rang around 6:30 pm. It was Hayden's soccer coach on the line. It is amazing how many thoughts can flood your mind in a matter of seconds. I remember thinking instantly that I could hear something in his voice and I thought to myself, "please tell me Hayden threw up." His tone carried a heaviness even in his hello. I knew that him calling 30 minutes before the end of practice wouldn't be for a good reason. He quickly told me that Hayden fell and a teammate accidently kicked his arm as he was going for the ball.
Ryan jumped in his truck and drove to the field while I quickly reached out to a neighbor to watch the other boys. Thankfully, a pediatric nurse was at the soccer fields and created an arm splint using a roll of paper towels, an ace bandage and duct tape. Hayden was in a lot of pain but suffered quietly and showed a really brave face and attitude despite seeing his arm in the shape of an S. He completely broke both the ulna and radius. This entailed the painful process of resetting the bones. He did have some medication to help muffle the agony. The cast goes all the way up his arm ending just under his armpit. Throughout the process Hayden remained polite to all the hospital staff (using please and thank you) and showed a brave face in adversity. It really is something to be in a situation and admire the person your child is becoming blurring the lines as to whom is teaching whom.

Western and Southern
Some of our dearest friends, Eddi and Joe came for a visit. We were neighbors in Florida and quickly became friends and then like family. Eddi is not only a tennis player herself but a huge fan of the pros. There is an annual Western and Southern tennis tournament only 40 minutes from our house. This is the second year Eddi and Joe have kindly treated our family to the kid day. She also made great personalized t-shirts.
Big Wheel 10!
This last weekend was our neighborhood's 10th annual big wheel race. As we were unpacking boxes just days after moving here the first, time in 2010, a neighbor knocked on the door to invite us to their annual big wheel race that was approaches. After he described the event we knew we would love this neighborhood. The idea was conceived by a few neighbors one evening around a fire pit and after a few beers. In essence, adults and kids race big wheels down our development's large hill. It is a fundraiser for a local family, organization or charity that is decided upon each year. The event has really grown over the years complete with donations, sponsors, themes, t-shirts, modified big wheels etc. This years' theme was Beach. Ryan went with the Baywatch theme as did a few others.
Here are the Baywatchers 'slow motion' moving to the theme song being played through a speaker.
Ryan modified his big wheel by replacing the seat with a skim board.
This is one of the many kid heats at the start line.
Some modified vehicles...the far right is a coconut drink with a yellow drinking straw.
Owen is cheering.
Hayden has the red helmet.
There is an opening ceremony and closing ceremony.
This year we were happy to have our dear friends Eddi and Joe in town from Florida.

Happy 8th Birthday, Logan!
Logan turned 8 on Valentine's Day. He wanted his party to be at Skyzone, an indoor trampoline play place. He was able to invite four friends and selected kids from the neighborhood. His theme was Pokémon. Logan doesn't like birthday cake so we served slushies as the birthday treat.
Christmas 2016
I miss blogging. I wish I could recap the last 18 months but I am just going to pick up where life is now (except for Christmas). Maybe I will toss in some throw backs from time-to-time.
We had a wonderful Christmas--our 2nd in our new home. I love the comfort in tradition; knowing just where to put the Christmas tree and set up the manger scene. We chopped down our tree from the same farm from the year prior (and the two Christmas seasons we celebrated here our first assignment). We attended our town's Christmas Tree Lighting festival where we got our photo with Santa in the old Sugar Maple House and submitted a family gingerbread house in the competition.
Both my parents came in town for a week (more photos are on my phone that need to be transferred). It is always fun to share the holidays with family.
Hope your holidays were full of good cheer!
