For the second year we attended a Breakfast With Santa at our neighborhood's clubhouse. We were all excited that Santa would be arriving on a fire truck.
Let me back up a minute...
We display our annual pictures with Santa at Christmas time. This year, Ryan and I were looking over them and commented that we believe we are past the crying phase. We were confident that this year's picture with Santa would be 'easy.'
So, yesterday morning we had just arrived to breakfast when a few minutes later Santa arrived on a fire truck! He came inside and sat in a chair. There wasn't even a line!!! What? No line to wait for Santa with squirmy children? This was going to be easy. We approach Santa. Hayden quickly climbed on his lap with Owen not far behind. Then, we notice that Logan had returned to the table. Logan felt anxious and his eyes welled with tears. He didn't want to sit with Santa. Or stand near Santa. Owen quickly caught Logan's nerves too and backed away.
We all returned to our table, ate some breakfast and regrouped. We assured Logan he just needed to stand next to him. He didn't even have to talk or look at Santa. Ease washed over Logan's face and he was ready! So, we all approach Santa again. Hayden immediately sits on Santa's lap with Owen toddling behind. But wait! Anxiety takes over Logan again, with tears, and he isn't up to the task.
We all return to the table again. Feeling defeated but desperate to get this traditional picture we tell Logan that I can hold him --our last ditch effort. He thought that would be an okay idea. So, Plan C: I will hold Logan. Ryan will hold Owen and Hayden, of course, will sit on Santa's lap for the third time.
For the first year ever, Ryan and I will be pictured in our Santa photo display. Oh well, maybe next year will be easy. Then again, maybe not. But even if we have to go to Plan D we'll get a picture! :)
