Hayden's school has a Hearts Apart counselor to help children/families who have a deployed Mommy or Daddy. Hayden will meet with her and other students on a regular basis. I spent some time chatting with her on the phone. She recommended making a paper chain with one link per each day of the deployment. She said it is very helpful for the kids to be able to visualize that time is passing. I spoke to a friend whose husband just returned from a deployment and she said it was beneficial for her children who are similar in age.
So, here's our chain: 180 links.
We will cut one link each evening before bed.
