Mail For Heroes

The boys are so eager for Christmas morning.  Naturally, the gifts beneath the tree beg anticipation to have the paper torn off in a few weeks.  Trying to instill 'giving is better than receiving' in a young boy's mind is a bit of a challenge.  In trying to robust their giving spirits we are trying to keep others in mind.  This week, the boys made cards for wounded warriors.

First, they watched a short video clip of some recovering veterans at Walter Reid Hospital.  (nothing was graphic or overwhelming).  It showed letters being delivered last year and several soldiers were interviewed about what it meant to receive the mail.  These brave men/women spoke of the immense encouragement they feel through the cards.  One soldier was so touched he said, "I just wish there was a way I could do something for them [the makers of the cards]."  Wow!  He just fought for our freedom and was injured.  I think he did do something....for all of us!

The boys were so inspired by the video and really put in a lot of effort into their pictures/words.

Next on tap, making cookies for the bus drivers.
